Presidents' Message

Hello Medina!

We can't believe how quickly this year flew by! With only one week left, this will be our FINAL BYTE for the 2017-2018 school year. A HUGE THANK YOU to our editor, Li Ge. She has worked tirelessly all year long to bring this newsletter full of information to you each and every week.

Again, we want to thank our PTA Executive Team and Board of Directors for all your time and energy. Your support and hard work all year has been appreciated. Eileen Foley, Priscilla McAughan, Dongqin Feng, Julia Zhu, Cindy Roberts, Jessica Rossman, Michael Zhang, Evonne Lai, Andrea Perry, Andrew Klein, Rebecca Johnston, Yi Jin and Denise Stolte-Reinisch - you were all amazing!

And another thank you to all our Chairs who took on specific events. They would not have existed if not for these wonderful parent volunteers. Please see the website main page for the full list!

We have been so grateful to work in true partnership with our school leadership and staff. A special shoutout has to go to Molly Piper for keeping the paperwork and scheduling on track! 

Last week, the teachers and staff hosted a wonderful Community Appreciation Breakfast. The food and conversation were terrific.  Parents definitely enjoyed both! Thank you!

Last week we had Field Day on Wednesday where students were able to choose from various stations ranging from an obstacle course to yoga to bubbles. Even with drizzly weather, a great time was had by all. Thank you to Anita Bagga for organizing this fun event and to the over 20 parents, teachers and staff who assisted with all parts of it!

Our 5th graders also enjoyed their end of year party which had a carnival atmosphere to it! Thanks to Debbie Kalpakidis, Carrie Ruckhaber, Carrie Montague, Dana Kaefer, Jaclyn Schwartz, Xiangyu Chu and the 5th grade room parents for planning this very fun event for our graduating students. It was clear that they were ready to celebrate!

For this week, we hope our children enjoy their final week of school for the year - learning, exchanging autographs in their yearbook and following the final ABC countdown! Monday at 8:30 am is the all school "move-up" assembly. Parents are welcomeFriday is a shortened day 8:05-10:05 am with the 5th grade Graduation ceremony at 8:30.

We have enjoyed working to support our school and students this year and appreciate everyone who helped make all that was done possible! Keep an eye out for summer communications!

Join in our School Events

Last Day of School on Friday, 6/22 - Shortened Day!  

The last day of school will be on Friday, 6/22, from 8:05 to 10:05 am. Buses will be leaving at 10:10 am. 



Yearbooks will be handed out in class on Tuesday, June 19, to all students who ordered.

If you missed ordering, a limited number will be available to purchase in front of school on Wednesday, June 20, at Noon. First come, first served! Price is $20 per yearbook and we will only accept exact cash amount or check (made out to Medina PTA).

Congratulations to all Medina students for raising $294.20 during our last Box Top collection drive in May! That means we collected over 2940 Box Tops!
The following classrooms collected the most Box Tops in each grade and have won an extra recess!

Kindergarten: Mrs. Wright

Thank you so much for your participation! Save Box Tops throughout the summer so we can be ready for the next collection week, coming up in September or October. You can turn in box tops throughout the year in the office. Just put them in a baggie and write your teacher's name on it.

Our 5th graders have voted on what they would like to leave behind as part of their "legacy" to Medina Elementary. PTA funds were set aside at the beginning of the year and four choices were given to the students from which to choose.
They voted to give the school a printer/tech package of 6 color printers (one for each grade) with ink, an updated dvd player and lighting board for the stage area.
We know that future students will appreciate these tools to use in their education!

  2018 Summer Kids Fun Run

Sunday, August 26th @ Seward Park, Seattle

Kids will run in a fun dash following our 5k and 10k races that morning. Kids will receive a t-shirt, goody bag and finisher souvenir.

This is great opportunity for kids to get excited about the Kids Marathon in the fall, a great incentive to stay active in the summer and a fun dog-friendly, family event.

$25 entry fee.

2018 Seattle Kids Marathon

Saturday, November 24th @ Memorial Stadium, Seattle

In the weeks prior to the Kids Marathon, students will independently log 25 miles run/walked, independent reading books, healthy meals and acts of service. Then on Kids Marathon day, they will join with teammates and supporting adults to run the last 1.2 miles together before enjoying the full amenities of the Victory Recovery Area--the same amenities that the full marathoners will be enjoying the next day at our 2018 Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon. Kids will receive a shirt, goody bag, program incentives and finisher souvenir. The Seattle Kids Marathon is a great culminating event for the program that promotes active, healthy habits for your students.

$25 entry fee with specials for schools that register as a group. Most participating schools introduce the program in the fall to correspond with the new school year. Complete details here:
