Principal's Message

Crosswalk Safety:  A quick reminder from our wonderful Bus driver crew for students to use the cross walks when walking or riding their bikes to school.  There have been some reports of our students crossing the street at random spots in front of cars and the school busses.  Please discuss this safety reminder with your students.  We value their well-being.

Suicide Awareness & Resources:

 ·        See resources within the attached letter.

 ·        Netflix series ’13 Reasons Why’:  With the recent and tragic shooting in Texas today, sad news within our own district, and the release of the second season of 13 Reasons Why, which will premiere on Netflix tonight,  Friday, May 18th, I feel compelled to share the attached letter and information about this Netflix series.  If you are not familiar with the series, the first season centered on a student’s suicide, chronicling her stated reasons why she had taken her life. The second season follows the aftermath and deals with issues of suicide, sexual assault, guilt, and revenge.  The attached letter includes some brief information on the series and provides resources for parents to use, should they choose, when discussing difficult topics with their students.  I’m sharing this letter with all of you, even though the show is targeted at high school students, because middle school and upper elementary school students may watch the show as well.

Kindness Club Chalk Walk:  What beautiful way to start our day today – with inspiring words from our children.  Our Kindness Club students spent some time yesterday writing heartfelt words, phrases and messages to their peers, the staff and our community at large, to read as we entered school today.  These simple sentiment are a quick and friendly way to remind us of all that we have to be grateful for in a day shared at Medina, through our shared teaching, learning and play.  If you have a moment, take the time to stop, read, and enjoy their work.  See the attached picture of our entry stairs.

Have a beautiful weekend.

 Supporting Kids Through Tough Times

Trauma Informed Care & Restorative Practices

How do we help our kids deal with the stress of modern challenges—from the isolation of social media and the impact of national tragedies, to racism, personal trauma, and more? Join Bellevue Schools Foundation and CJ Ellsworth of Sea Mar Community Health Center for a discussion of what we can do as parents and community members who care about our youth.

Saturday, June 2, from 10-11:30 a.m.
Highland Middle School, 15027 Bel-Red Rd, Bellevue
(light refreshments provided, childcare available)

Parents and community members who attend this event will learn about ways to better support children through our current challenging times, and how to reduce their stress by teaching their caregivers and support systems tools to help them through these issues.

This event is free and open to the public;  please register at this link.

CJ Ellsworth, MA, LMFT, CMHS will lead the information session and discussion; Mrs. Ellsworth is a Program Manager and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist & Supervisor, in Child & Family Behavioral Health program at Sea Mar Community Health Center. This session is funded by King County’s Best Starts for Kids grant.

With only two months of this school year left, we are actively looking to create next year's PTA board. Please let us know if you are interested in taking a position as one of the dedicated individuals who will serve on next year's Executive Committee and Board of Directors. If you are interested in either being involved on the Board or in a Committee Chair position, please contact

Our programs and events can't be done without you all! We need people driven to making our school a better place for our children to get involved!

The Bellevue Christian School 7th graders are having a bike drive on Saturday, June 2, from 10:00 am to 3:00pm. It will be at the BCS main campus in the lower parking lot.

We are looking for 20-inch wheel BMX style bikes, 24-26 inch wheel mountain bikes, road bikes of any size, but especially smaller size.

We are asking people to donate a bike and $5 to help with the cost of processing.  The bike drive is to benefit Bike Works whose mission is to promote the bicycle as a vehicle for change to empower youth and build resilient communities.

We appreciate your support by letting students know about this opportunity to donate bikes and help other kids.
