Presidents' Message

Hello Medina Community!

This past week three PTA events were held - a parent education panel about anxiety in our children, the Mariners Star Wars bobble head night (May the 4th be With You) and a pancake breakfast fundraiser for our Awesome Einstein team going to Globals.

Thank you to Eileen Foley, Denise Stolte-Reinisch and their iConnect team, Dongqin Feng and Julia Zhu and Jessica Shao and Brandon Weinan Wang and the Awesome Einstein’s for planning these events.

This coming week is Staff Appreciation week. Please show your support for our amazing teachers and staff! We are grateful for their hard work and the experiences they share with our children every day.

Lastly, get ready to bring in the box tops you have been collecting! This is an easy way to bring in extra funds for our school with products you are already purchasing.

Join in our School Events

The Golden Acorn Award is presented by local PTAs to volunteers in recognition of their exemplary and outstanding service. The Medina Elementary PTA awards this honor to volunteers who are “graduating” from Medina Elementary with their 5th grade students. Recognizing individuals who go above and beyond in supporting our children is a great way to acknowledge how much their service matters. If you would like to nominate a volunteer for his or her dedicated service in support of students, send your nomination to by Friday, 5/18. Please be sure to include a brief summary of why you believe the volunteer should be recognized and any PTA positions they may have held.


BOX TOP COLLECTION WEEK IS  May 14th – May 18th        

-This is a great competition to raise funds for our school just by looking at products you already purchase! Bring in the box tops of those participating products you already use (e.g. Ziploc Bags, Progressive Soup, Motts Apple Juice, Kleenex tissues, several cereal brands, etc)
-Bags will be distributed to the teachers
-Each child should bring their Boxtops to their classroom.  Or they can drop them off in the Boxtops collection box in the office.
-Please trim the Boxtops and place them in a baggie, noting the teachers name.
-The class collecting the most Boxtops in each grade level will win a prize!

 BSD Gifted Program Update – A BGA Event

With Dr. Ivan Duran, BSD Superintendent and Lora McHugh, supervisor of gifted education in Bellevue School District (BSD). Dr. Duran and Lora will be speaking about an update on gifted education in BSD. The presentation will focus on information about gifted services, student achievement, and student matriculation data.

We have had several requests for a time for parents to meet other parents in gifted, and this is our answer to that request. Cookies will be provided.

With only two months of this school year left, we are actively looking to create next year's PTA board. Please let us know if you are interested in taking a position as one of the dedicated individuals who will serve on next year's Executive Committee and Board of Directors.  Supporting Kids Through Tough Times

 Trauma Informed Care & Restorative Practices

How do we help our kids deal with the stress of modern challenges—from the isolation of social media and the impact of national tragedies, to racism, personal trauma, and more? Join Bellevue Schools Foundation and CJ Ellsworth of Sea Mar Community Health Center for a discussion of what we can do as parents and community members who care about our youth.

Parents and community members who attend this event will learn about ways to better support children through our current challenging times, and how to reduce their stress by teaching their caregivers and support systems tools to help them through these issues.

This event is free and open to the public;  please register at this link.

CJ Ellsworth, MA, LMFT, CMHS will lead the information session and discussion; Mrs. Ellsworth is a Program Manager and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist & Supervisor, in Child & Family Behavioral Health program at Sea Mar Community Health Center. This session is funded by King County’s Best Starts for Kids grant.

 3rd Grade Concert: Wednesday June 6th 6:00

 4th Grade “Beatles” Concert: Wednesday June 6th 7:00

 Students and families should arrive 5-10 minutes before their concert time, and go directly to the gym and be seated. Please email me with any questions, or let me know if you would like to volunteer to help with any of the concerts.


Dear Families and Friends,

Greetings from the Awesome Einstein team! We are a group of amazing 3rd and 4th grade students from Medina Elementary. Our names are Justin, Emily, Oliver, Sophia, Zoey and Aelita.

We recently participated in Destination Imagination (DI) tournaments and won first place both at the Regional and State Tournament for Elementary Level Engineering Challenge. We are super excited that we will be representing Medina and the State of Washington to compete in DI Global Finals in May in Knoxville, Tennessee!
DI is a team competition about creativity, teamwork, and having fun. There are 7 different types of challenges, and we chose the Engineering Challenge: Drop Zone. We created a structure as light as possible with materials allowed, and it withstood 150 pounds being dropped onto it. We also wrote our own scripts, designed and created our own props and costumes and put together a very fun performance.

As first-time participants in DI, and probably the youngest group to go to DI Global Finals, we’ve come a long way to get where we are, and we’re extremely proud of our achievements. However, attending the Globals is very costly, and we are therefore reaching out to our families and friends for any kind of support and donations.

You can support us in any of the following ways:

2. Come and support us at our fundraising table during Stem Night on Wednesday April 25 at Medina. We will be selling more than a dozen super fun and cool STEM toys.
3. Join us at Applebee’s Flapjack fundraising breakfast event from 9:30-11:00am on Saturday May 5. Tickets are $10 per person, and each ticket is good for one Flapjack breakfast at Applebee’s that includes pancake, syrup, butter, scrambled eggs, bacon, juice and coffee! And the most fun part is that the Awesome Einstein team will be your waiters and waitresses! It will be a fun fundraising/celebration event, and we’ll be happy to share more about our DI experience with you if you are interested in joining next year.
4. Look out for pop-up booth in the under-covered area at Medina Elementary in the next 4 weeks. We will be selling cookies, drinks and more!
