Presidents' Message

Hello Medina Community!

Congratulations to all who participated in the Queen's Quest Chess Tournament this past Saturday. 150 girls played 5 rounds of chess! A heartfelt thank you to our Chess Club chairs Gulin Goktepe and Yu Liu. It could not have been accomplished without your efforts and those of your team of volunteers. Thanks to all the parents who helped with set up, clean up, concessions, registration, judging or any of the many details needed to create this great event.

We are excited to present our online store for Medina Spiritwear!! The link below will take you to the site. We have a variety of shirts, sweatshirts and shorts for children and adults to show their Medina spirit! The store will only be open until the Friday before Spring Break. We will then have all items sent to school and distributed in the classroom. Please contact with any questions.

Lastly, we are starting to register for our spring classes including drama and lego robotics. Please be sure to sign up if your children are interested.

Hello Medina Parents

On March 4, 2018, we had 11 Medina DI teams participated Central Sound regional DI completion.  It was a great journey for both Median DI kids and DI parents that we worked together over past 4 months and showed case our awesome work. Thank you all!  I am also very thrilled to share the following great DI results with Medina Elementary school community.  Thank you again for all your support!

1st place that qualified for state DI tournament

The Spring session drama classes will take place on Mondays (2:45pm-4:15pm), 4/16/18 to 6/11/18 at Medina Elementary. Class sizes are limited to 12 students per class. Registration will open Tuesday 3/20 and close midnight Wednesday, 4/4. It will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Class fee is $120 total, for all 8 classes.

Here are the new drama class descriptions. We limited the class size to reach the best result!

Once Upon a Time (K-2nd Grade)
Jump into the story! Students will explore classic fairy and folk tales through dramatic play and crafts. Each week we will read a different book, acting it out and discovering new ways to tell the story. We'll change characters if it suits us, and question why the story ends the way it does. Towards the end of the session, we'll choose our favorite story to perform for family and friends on the final day of  class.

Musical Theater Showcase (3-5 Grade)
Musical Theater Showcase A musical theater extravaganza! Students will sing songs, act out scenes and learn choreography from great Broadway musicals. This class will focus on building a character, stage presence, and acting a song. We will end the class with a fabulous musical revue!

 Who is invited: Medina and Clyde Hill Parents and Staff

This is the second in a series of three events, from the Community Outreach Committee and PTA. This is a parent/adult ONLY event. We will not be offering childcare for this event so please plan accordingly. We have invited the Clyde Hill Elementary school to join in so parking could be tight. You may want to walk or carpool.

 Community Outreach Survey

The community outreach team developed a survey to gather some information from families about which areas of the CASEL competencies and Internet Safety they want more information on.  Could you please include the link below in your weekly newsletter.  Let parents know it will only take about five minutes to fill out the survey.

As we enter the second half of the year, we are already looking towards next year's PTA board. We need a nominating committee to find the dedicated individuals who will serve on next year's Executive Committee and Board of Directors. WSPTA Leaders Advocate for Children in Washington D.C. This Week

The children of Washington state were represented by WSPTA leaders in Washington, D.C. this week during their visit to Capitol Hill as part of National PTA's Annual Legislative Conference. Pictured are WSPTA Legislative Director Nancy Chamberlain, Senator Patty Murray, and WSPTA President Michelle Nims. Thank you to Senator Murray's office for holding this "Constituent Coffee" to listen to PTA's priority issues.

Bellevue Schools Foundation

BSF Spring for Schools on April 27th

Bellevue Schools Foundation is a nonprofit organization that funds programs to enhance the education of every student in every Bellevue public school. Founded in 1979 by parents and members of the community, BSF was one of the first schools foundations in the country and has served as a model for other communities seeking to improve their public schools. BSF’s current investments include development of an integrated STEM curricula for grades K-12, support of teacher training through the rigorous National Board Certification program, tuition-free preschool for low income residents, and funding of arts, enrichment and innovation grants for each and every Bellevue school.

Come and dress in dress in STAR WARS™ attire as you will. First 20,000 fans receive a Han Seago Booblehead! Watch for our school’s name on the video board in the 4th inning for Mariners special welcome to Safeco Field.

Please book the tickets in a group if you would like to sit together. Please be aware that any props resembling real firearms or weapons will be confiscated. Fans dressing up should keep in mind the comfort and view of fans around them as well.

Tigers Before and After Classes 


This spring class for Kindergarten and Grade 1 :  Lego Engineering Club K/1. Students can observe and investigate simple machines. Discover mechanical principles by exploring, investigating, and solving tasks related to mechanical principles as well as learn about energy, balance, buoyancy, and much more. Please click link here to register.


Lego Robotics club will be starting this spring on April 19th and if you are interested you will need to register as soon as possible by clicking the link below. Priority will be given to those who have not attended the club before. We will be using Lego WEDO to build strong foundations in LEGO robotics.  Our robotics club is designed to allow students space to create, innovate, inquire, and learn while having fun.  Please click link here to register.

Explore the creative world of Fashion Illustration! Students will receive a sketchbook to use daily while learning how to draw clothing illustrations from head to toe. Please click the flyer for details.

 On the Math is Cool 5th Grade Seattle Championships on March 9, Medina students achieved a total of three trophies out the 15 awarded to top performers. Owen Z. got the 2nd place trophy, immediately followed by Yifan W. with the 3rd place trophy. Raymon Z. brought back the third individual trophy at the 11th place. Congratulations!
