Presidents' Message

Hello Medina Community!

We hope you are enjoying your four day weekend. Please remember that there is no school tomorrow, Monday the 19th.
Our calendar is becoming quite full for the final months of school. Please watch The Byte and the website for information on each terrific event.

We will also be having a Box Tops for Education drive in the next few weeks so please start collecting those from products you already purchase.

Enjoy the week!

Tracy and Anita
Co-presidents, Medina Elementary PTA

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Medina Community,

In an effort to shore up our building safety procedures and protocol, please aid us in keeping all doors locked before school and after school by not propping doors open and removing any door props should you see one.  We have signs posted on our doors as reminder of this protocol.  This practice helps to support the safety for all students and staff during before, during, and after school building use.  Thank you for your support.

On Wednesday, March 21st, 8:30-9:30, in the library, we will host a Parent Safety Forum with Doug James, Director of Security, Bellevue School District.  Please join us to hear about our district and school safety procedures and protocols.  Coffee and cookies will be provided.

Warmly,

Laurie Harvey

 Community Outreach Survey

The community outreach team developed a survey to gather some information from families about which areas of the CASEL competencies and Internet Safety they want more information on.  Could you please include the link below in your weekly newsletter.  Let parents know it will only take about five minutes to fill out the survey.

Thanks for your help

As we enter the second half of the year, we are already looking towards next year's PTA board. We need a nominating committee to find the dedicated individuals who will serve on next year's Executive Committee and Board of Directors. If you are interested in either being on the Nominating Committee or being involved on the Board or in a Committee Chair position, please contact president@medinapta.org.
The programs and events can't be done without you all! We need people driven to making our school a better place for our children to get involved!

Pictured are WSPTA Legislative Director Nancy Chamberlain, Senator Patty Murray, and WSPTA President Michelle Nims. Thank you to Senator Murray's office for holding this "Constituent Coffee" to listen to PTA's priority issues.

Bellevue Schools Foundation

Bellevue Schools Foundation: Spring For Schools!

The Bellevue Schools Foundation’s annual luncheon is coming up on April 27th, and you’re invited! BSF is a unique nonprofit whose mission is exclusively to support and enhance educational opportunities in Bellevue public schools, including Medina. BSF pays to develop and implement new curricula that the district would otherwise not be able to afford, including in STEM. We can see BSF’s investments today in our new elementary science curriculum and classroom materials, and now BSF is developing an integrated K-12 computer science and computational thinking curriculum.  BSF also funds unique school experiences, like visits with acclaimed authors Oliver Chinn and Dan Gemeinhart.  And BSF enriches our whole community’s future, including by funding tuition-free slots for low-income children to access high-quality preschool at Bellevue schools.  Please consider attending the Spring for Schools Luncheon on April 27th to learn more about BSF.  Space at the luncheon has been reserved for interested Medina parents: contact Jessica Rossman for details (bsf@medinapta.org).   Donations to BSF are tax deductible, and more information is available at http://www.bellevueschoolsfoundation.org/

Each week we will read a different book, acting it out and discovering new ways to tell the story. We'll change characters if it suits us, and question why the story ends the way it does. Towards the end of the session, we'll choose our favorite story to perform for family and friends on the final day of  class.

Musical Theater Showcase (3-5 Grade)
Musical Theater Showcase A musical theater extravaganza! Students will sing songs, act out scenes and learn choreography from great Broadway musicals. This class will focus on building a character, stage presence, and acting a song. We will end the class with a fabulous musical revue!
