Presidents' Welcome Message

Hello everyone and welcome to our first October issue of the Byte! We wanted to thank all those who attended the Dad's Night Out and Mom's Night Out. Both were a great success. Thank you to Ian Olsen, Colin Hawkes, Priscilla McAughan and Eileen Foley for bringing those evenings together! They were socially fun and raised money for our kids.  Please keep an eye out for something similar at this year's auction.

We also wanted to thank all of our beginning-of-the-year brunch hosts for opening their homes and allowing us to meet and mingle. Those that attended enjoyed themselves and those new to Medina were given an opportunity to meet parents that they will spend the year getting to know.

Many of our clubs are in full swing now and we hope your child is participating in what they enjoy. If you have any questions, please feel free to look on the website and contact us or the appropriate chair.

Our main October event is the Dance-a-thon, the week of 10/16-10/20, with a show at lunchtime that Friday and culminating in a dance party that night for the whole family. While this is one of our two major fundraisers and we appreciate all those participating in donating funds for our school, this will also be a fun event for all ages. We hope to see you there!

Lastly, on 10/27 we are having our first movie night. Details on the movie will be in a future Byte.

Thank you!

Anita and Tracy

Building Blocks for a Brighter Future!

DANCE-A-THON: Friday, 10/20/17

WAKE ME UP BEFORE YOU GO-GO, I’M NOT PLANNING ON GOING SOLO…and why should you, it’s Dance-a-thon Family Night! It’s official, our 2nd annual Dance-a-thon fundraiser has begun. Information and donation forms were sent home in a packet with the students last week. We have three weeks to reach our goal of $55,000 to help fund Instructional Aides, Technology Resources, Curriculum Enhancements and so much more for our school.

Parents and guests may donate online via the following links:

Don’t forget about corporate matching if you’re able to do so!

We have so much fun planned for the kids during the event this year. During the week of October 16th, we will have a DJ coming to school to teach the kids some fancy dance moves which they will be showcasing for all on the evening of Friday, October 20th at Dance-a-thon Family Night. In keeping with our Brighter Future theme, not only will our kids be glowing that night, but so will everything else, including glowing games, face painting, shirts and décor.

You might also be the lucky winner of a Gift basket and/or a pair of Seahawks tickets!

There will be food trucks on the premises to purchase food, so no need to cook or clean that night.

Volunteers for the week will be needed and appreciated. If you are interested in helping out, please check out the following SignUp Genius link for volunteer opportunities. There is a volunteer schedule for parent dance instructors on this link as well.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Ian Olsen at

Disaster Relief Donations

In light of the numerous natural disasters that have occurred in the last month or so, many in our generous community have asked how Medina can help. While we cannot necessarily collect and send supplies at this time, we can offer a way to donate to the organizations that can help. The American Red Cross has assisted in humanitarian disaster relief across the globe and are working to find ways to assist in Puerto Rico, Florida and Texas as those areas begin to rebuild and recover. We have included their link and organization description below.
The American Red Cross, also known as the American National Red Cross, is a humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief and education in the United States. It is the designated US affiliate of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. See HERE for more information and how to donate.

Save the Date – November 18th, 2017

Well, it’s that time of the year again where we are super excited to welcome Missoula Children’s Theatre to Medina Elementary.  This year’s performance will be the unique interpretation of the treasured children’s classic, Gulliver’s Travels!  For those of you who are new to our school, the Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT), the Nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for several years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with up to 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team arrives at Medina Elementary on November 13th, 2017 with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast. That’s where our talented, young students come in.  An MCT tour team will hold open auditions for Gulliver’s Travels after school starting Monday, 11/13. The audition/rehearsal time will start at 2:45 pm in the cafeteria. There will be after school rehearsals every day the week of November 13th, followed by two performances on Saturday, 11/18, at 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm. There is no charge to attend the performances.

Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project.  MCT's mission is to develop life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.  Be sure to mark your calendar and join in the fun!

*** MCT play is open to a limited number of actors. Should your child not receive a role this time, click HERE to learn how to help kids deal with disappointment   If your child does not deal well with disappointment, this activity may not be for them at this time.

*** We are looking for two families who would like to host the two MCT Tour Actor/Directors. The host families will provide the housing for the MCT Tour Actor/Directors for 7 nights, from Sunday Nov 12th afternoon to Sunday 19th morning. The Tour Actor/Directors and the host families often have wonderful memories and may launch new friendships. This is a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange for the team and the host families. Acceptance is guaranteed if a host family's child wants to be in the show. First come, first serve.

Questions about MCT?  Want to host?
Please contact Dongqin Feng or Julia Zhu at or 425-394-9437.
