Presidents' Message

We hope everyone had a restful spring break!

This Wednesday, April 18th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm is WORLD CULTURE NIGHT! Doors open at 5:00 pm. It is a fun night exploring different cultures from around the world. See below for further details.

We are looking for next year's PTA officers! If you can be on the nominating committee or would like to take a role next year, please contact us!

Our PTA General Assembly meeting on Friday 4/20/18. It is the same time as the free movie night in the Multi Purpose Room so our children will have a supervised place to be. Bring your own dinner at 5:30 pm and the movie and meeting will start at 6:00 pm.  The PTA meeting is a great opportunity to find out what is going on in terms of events, vote on issues in our community and weigh in with your opinion.  We will be electing a nominating committee who will help find next year's board (let us know if you want to be on that). We will also hear from our principal, details about our auction results, the Bellevue School Foundation's Spring for Schools lunch and more! Hope to see you there!

Have a great week!

Tracy and Anita

World Culture Night is right around the corner!

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday and exploring the cultures of Afghanistan, Brazil, Bulgaria,  China, Columbia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Guam, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, India, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mauritius, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, The United States, and Vietnam.

Doors will open at 5:00 PM. All children must be chaperoned by an adult. There will be no supervision provided at the event or outside the gym.

Set-up will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. If you are hosting a table, you need to come during this time and be ready to go by 5:00 pm. The tables from the school district are not always in the best condition so please bring a tablecloth to cover your table.

If you are interested in hosting a table, please contact us immediately as we still have a few extra tables available.

Will you or your child be performing that night? If so, you should have been contacted by Eileen Foley. If you have NOT been contacted, please email Eileen as soon as possible at eileen.foley@gmail.com. We are thrilled to have so many Medina students performing this year!

If you have any questions, please contact Miss Muller at mullers@bsd405.org. See you on Wednesday night as we travel the world!

With only two months of this school year left after spring break, we are actively looking to create next year's PTA board. We need a nominating committee to find the dedicated individuals who will serve on next year's Executive Committee and Board of Directors. If you are interested in either being on the Nominating Committee or being involved on the Board or in a Committee Chair position, please contact president@medinapta.org.

Our programs and events can't be done without you all! We need people driven to making our school a better place for our children to get involved!

Please join us to Spring for Schools!

Bellevue Schools Foundation’s annual fundraising luncheon is coming up on April 27th!  Will you join us in supporting this great nonprofit?  For more information or to register, please contact bsf@medinapta.org.  Alternatively, you can check it out at http://www.bellevueschoolsfoundation.org/  If you register through the BSF website and you’d like to be seated with other Medina parents, please feel free to select Jessica Rossman or Tracy Mayclin under “Table Seating Selection.”  In addition to supporting a great cause, it’s an opportunity to get together and meet more of our wonderful school community!

BSF is an independent nonprofit that supports the educational mission of Bellevue School District. BSF funds specific projects for individual schools, including Medina, and also works district-wide to develop new curricula that meaningfully improve the education our kids receive throughout their time in Bellevue schools. Among other projects, BSF is currently working on creating integrated K–12 computer science/computational thinking curricula—an effort that would make Bellevue among the first in the nation to have a unified computer science teaching plan that builds knowledge in this important field as students progress through their education. BSF is also directly funding special Medina Elementary experiences this year, such as: visits with acclaimed authors (Oliver Chinn for grades K-2; Dan Gemeinhart for grades 3-5); unique theatrical performances about immigration (grade 3), the 19th century gold rush (grade 4), and the American Revolution (grade 5); and for our upper grade art classes, a chance to learn directly from a glass artist and then create their own glass-fused tiles. BSF also funds ongoing teacher training through the National Board certification; many of Medina’s teachers have been through that program.  And BSF works to provide crucial resources for less fortunate students in our Bellevue community, including by providing tuition-free preschool to students who will benefit from a great start to their educational lives.

STEM Week (April 23-27) is coming to Medina! Students will have opportunities to participate in exciting STEM related activities during the school day. STEM Family Night will be on Wednesday, April 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Medina Elementary. Bring the whole family to see students' science projects along with advances in 3D printing, robotics, VR and AR! Come and participate in the always popular, annual Egg Drop Competition. It will be an amazing night of hands-on learning and fun with STEM related shows and activities for all ages.

If your child would like to work on a science project at home to share at school and win a prize during STEM Family Night, please see the science project guidelines and instructions.

This event would not be successful without you help. Please click the link here and sign up to help out. If you have any questions, please contact Sara Ye and Su Su at stemweek@medinapta.org.
