We hope you are all having a safe return home if you've been away, or are enjoying the remainder of your Thanksgiving break! We are filled we gratitude for this school community and all the contributions we see around us. If you missed our Community Service Project stay tuned for another. It was a wonderful success of team work and service in action. Thank you to those who attended. Check out our reminder below to learn more about how the Amazon smile program is working for Medina Elementary! Keep it in mind as you snag your online gifts!

This week we look forward to our Scholastic Bookfair, thank you to our Bookfair chairs who have worked so hard to prepare! Scholastic Book Fair

We still have a need for volunteers. We need two shopping assistants on Family Night and one more person on Friday for tear down. Please use this link to sign up.  We absolutely need your help!

We suggest you set up an eWallet for your student instead of sending them to school with cash!!  eWallet is new this year, and there is no charge to set it up. Simply create an account and authorize a spending limit on your credit card. You must set up an account for each student. Additional funds can be added at any time and purchases can be tracked. You are only charged for what is purchased (up to the spending limit). Visit our webpage and select the “get started” button to sign up.

Book Fair Shopping Hours

Tuesday 12/3: 7:50 am to 2:50 pm
Wednesday 12/5: 7:50 am to 12:40 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm (Family Night)
Thursday 12/5: 7:50 am to 2:50 pm

To help the event run smoothly, we kindly ask that you note the following:

- Please discuss with your child that there is NO borrowing or sharing of money.

- Once an item is purchased, there are NO refunds. If there is a serious issue that requires a refund, please reach out to your book fair co-chairs ( or the cashiers immediately.

- If you send your child to school with money, please place it in a zip-top bag or envelope labeled with the child’s name and teacher.

- You may send a pre-written check with your student. It should be made out to the Medina PTA with the amount they may spend filled out as well. Change will be given if necessary.

- Please DO NOT send credit cards with your child. We will not accept them without a parent present to sign for the purchase. We suggest you set up an eWallet account (as noted above) instead.

- Students should shop for items at the Book Fair during their regular class time. Students will also have access during specified recess times for their grade/class, depending on the day. However, recess time is chaotic, and the best time for students to shop is during their regular class library time or after school.

  • For the first day of the Book Fair, only books will be sold. Trinkets and posters will be available on Family Night and on Thursday on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Most teachers will have Wish Lists of titles they would like to add to their classroom libraries.
  • Parents are welcome to shop at the Book Fair throughout the day. All proceeds from the Book Fair directly benefit our school library, as we use the funds raised to purchase library materials throughout the year.

Our deepest thanks to our volunteers for staffing the Book Fair. This well-loved annual event would not happen without your dedication and support.

Mrs. McClelland and Mrs. Mitchell, your librarians, along with Rebecca Johnston and Shari Kauls, your Book Fair Chairpersons

Missoula Children's Theatre

Thank you to all the families who have signed up for Missoula Children's Theatre. We have more than 80 kids signed up for the audition! Please note MCT auditions are for grade 1 and above. For those who would like to participate but haven't registered yet, please promptly sign up here to ensure your child has a spot in the audition. Due to the limited number of roles available, please also prepare your child that not everyone will get a role.

The audition is from 2:35-5pm on Monday 12/9. There will be limited number of volunteers at the audition and childcare won't be provided. If your child is in 1st grade, please have a parent/guardian present at the audition. All other parents need to arrive at the cafeteria by 4:45 p.m for pick up or further instructions if their children have been cast. For some roles (usually the older kids), the first rehearsal starts 20 minutes after the audition. Rehearsals are every day 12/10-12/13 from right after school to approximately 7pm. Once your child is cast, please commit to have your child present at rehearsals EVERY DAY. Click here for more information about Missoula Children's Theatre.

What's New This Week

Thank you to everyone who participated in our first reading challenge! Congratulations to our winners! Each of our winners gets to choose a book at the Book Fair for their classroom library:

  • Kindergarten: James R. (Ms.Wright)
  • 1st Grade: Alexander S. (Ms. Ptak)
  • 2nd Grade: Nathaniel K. (Ms. Arnold)
  • 3rd Grade: Brendon W. (Ms. Coombs)
  • 4th Grade: Zoe M. (Ms. O'Hagan)
  • 5th Grade: Alexander L. (Ms. Renner)

Our second reading challenge begins NOW with the release of our brand new Book List. This list includes more advanced and challenging books for higher reading levels, books from different ethnic backgrounds, as well as holiday-related books to ring in the season! All of these books are available in either the school library or the Bellevue Public Library.

To complete the challenge, Read-A-Thon participants are asked to read at least three books (or as many as they can!) from the Book List by January 31st. Please make sure your child submits an online book report for every book that he/she reads from the Book List. This is the only way we will know how many and which books your child has read!

If your child would like to participate in the second reading challenge (and didn't sign up for the first challenge), please register here. Registration will remain open all year, and we encourage you to sign up anytime!

To learn more about Read-A-Thon, please visit the Read-A-Thon page. Happy reading!

Please think of us when you shop online for the holidays! When you shop Black Friday deals at, AmazonSmile donates to our PTA!

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Friday, November 22 for our first community service event of the year! We had such a great turnout of over 100+ people, and we were amazed by everyone's generous donations to Hopelink and by the creativity and quality of the placemats made for Meals on Wheels. We will post pictures of the event soon!

Thank you to everyone who made this event possible, and we hope to host more community service events in the Spring.

Medina Elementary School’s CO Team = Committee Outreach Team is continuing our year-long Campaign for Compassion, Unity and Kindness!

Starting this week through December, your child can fill out a little form that tells about something they or a fellow school mate did to show kindness! You can print out a card from these files: 1) pdf electronic format, 2) jpg picture format Or they can fill out cards that have been distributed to classrooms and by the two drop off boxes. One box will be at the entrance to the school and the other box will be in the Gallery.

Each week, Principal Harvey and AP Kardos will be drawing names from both boxes, and recognizing and giving prizes to the submitter and the person demonstrating kindness! Our Unity Day Assembly was part 1 of our Kindness Campaign. We are excited about this next piece, part 2, in our school-wide Kindness Campaign. Watch for even MORE fun and creative ideas in the coming months!
