Aum Upadhyay, a senior at Interlake High School who is a national award-winning science student. He created a game called Buzz Bowl , a cool Jeopardy-style buzzer game to make learning science and math fun for 5 th -8 th graders. The last four Buzz Bowl events were a big success so Bellevue Schools Foundation  is organizing a fifth Buzz Bowl on Sunday, February 10th at Tillicum Middle School from 8:30am to 2:30pm. The Medina All City chess tournament on Saturday, January 12 was a huge success! Close to 300 young chess players from over 30 schools competed in three sections during this all day event: kindergarten, 1st to 3rd grade, and 4th to 6th grade. Medina’s Book Fair is a wrap!  Thanks to the intense love of books and generous shopping spirit of our students, parents and teachers, o ur gross sales this year totaled $19,344.05!!   As you know, the Scholastic Book Fair is our only library-specific fundraiser for the school year.  Electing to take a cash award gives our librarians $4396.38 to spend on new library supplies for our students.  Medina also receives a 10% bonus of our sales in Scholastic dollars for holding our fair when we did, which results in an additional $1934 to spend with Scholastic! We have an amazing Chess Club at Medina Elementary. Chess Club starts this year on Wednesday, 9/26 . We welcome students from all grades and of all experience levels. The 2018-19 season will run from September to May with 26 sessions through the school year. Classes are after school on Wednesdays. Registration for year 2018-2019 is open. Please join us every Wednesday and Friday morning from 7:30-8:00am.  You do not need to sign up please just show up before school and walk or run. Many studies show that children who regularly exercise score higher on tests and have lower signs of ADHD. We track the laps the children run and give them small foot tokens for every 5 miles run.     Runners' Club will start September 12 and we will try to run until early November.
