This web site is focused on PTA-related activities. 2012-2013 School Supplies

It's time to order school supplies for the 2012-2013 school year! The easiest way to do it is to order the supplies online. You can order all the supplies your child needs and they'll be delivered to the school for you to pick up prior to the first day of school. Just visit www.epipacks.com, enter the school code MED021, and follow the prompts. Questions? Contact Linda Bracken at lindakbracken@msn.com.

IMPORTANT DISTRICT CHANGES

Thank you again to all who attended the Principal Coffee last Thursday. The topic was, "District changes to the Enrichment program," and our guest speaker was Theresa Janes, Supervisor of Gifted Programs. We have heard from parents who are just now beginning to learn about these changes and realizing the potential impact this will have on our school and community, Enrichment family or not. We want to provide facts so that our entire community understands what these changes are and can communicate any questions or concerns to the District.
  • All incoming 2nd and 3rd graders who have tested into the Enrichment program will be given a choice to attend Cherry Crest Elementary where they are offering an "all-day" enrichment program. They can also choose to stay at Medina without an Enrichment Program.
  • Incoming 4th and 5th graders who have tested into the Enrichment program will be offered the current program at Medina.
  • The District plan is to end the Enrichment program at Medina once our incoming 4th and 5th graders have graduated.
We encourage you to visit the BSD website for updates. Email Teresa Janes and/or the School Board with further questions.

Golden Acorn Award Nominations Needed

Please take the time to nominate a fifth grade parent who will not be at Medina Elementary next year for a Golden Acorn PTA Award. A Golden Acorn Award is presented to a volunteer in recognition of his/her dedication and service to children and youth. A contribution in the name of the recipient(s) will be made by the Medina PTA to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Program. From these contributions, WSPTA is able to provide grants to freshman students entering post-secondary education. Please email nominations to Kea Rensch or Amy Roberts by May 14th.

Committee Chairs Needed for 2012-2013!

Wanted: Enthusiastic parents to chair committees on our school's PTA.   Would you like to meet other parents and make a difference at our school?  Please contact NJ njtsmith@comcast.net or Wady milnerw@comcast.net to hear about the different roles available for the upcoming year!  We can't wait to hear from you!

Rainy Day Recess Donations

With Fall here to stay, we anticipate many days where it is pouring rain and it will not be safe to play outside of the undercover area. On these days, we have a RAINY DAY recess plan where students can play in the undercover area, go to the library, or play games, color, draw, and participate in other activities inside. We are looking for some donations for our RAINY DAY RECESS plan. Do you have some coloring books, cards, games, legos, or other items that you could donate to the school? If so, please bring them and put them in the RAINY DAY RECESS bins in the office this next week!

Your Donations will be so much appreciated by our students! Thank you! - Beth Hamilton

Virtue of the Month: Forgiveness

Being forgiving is giving someone another chance after they have done something wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. Rather than revenge, make amends. Forgiveness is also forgiving yourself too. Instead of feeling hopeless after a mistake, try to stay positive and have confidence that you can act differently next time.
